Markings Changed
The appearance of the markings has changed since they were detected, prior to straining.
The specimen may have moved, rotated or twisted. Markings may be partially obstructed to the Vector by a grip or fixture.
Solutions
Apply more preload to the specimen then reset Vector with a “handstop”.
A slack or twisted load-train is likely to move as further load is applied. This can result in the distortion of markings at the start of the test.Set the load-train straight and rigid, or apply more preload. Then cover the markings for atleast 1 second to reset Vector.
Check for an Obstruction
See section on Obstruction for more information.
Check that the markings have been applied as per the Marking Guide.
Clean and reapply markings aligned to the specimen. In particular, ensure the correct amount of ink has been used so that the markings are neither smudged or patchy. In some cases a contrasting basecoat may be required.See Specimen Marking for more information.
Information
After moving the module or specimen, wait a few seconds for warning indicators to settle.
Warning
Rigid and misaligned load trains can introduce bending moments to the specimen, resulting in error
